This just in from our pals over at the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship in regards to getting the course ready for the Downieville Classic:
"Mother Nature has dealt us a tough hand with all the snow, yet this act is somehow the moment we've been gearing up to handle over the past 16 years of producing the Downieville Classic. We’ve endured forest fires, blizzards, opening day of dear season and even a few appearances in court while an angry ex-partner tried to shut us down.
It seems no matter how dialed we have things on our end, there are things entirely out of our control that try to throw us off course. This year will be no different.
We’ve held off on sending this email, because quite honestly we were waiting for the sun to shine and the temperatures to warm up before we made any drastic decisions. This week, we realized the sun alone would not be enough to clear the course.
Not being the type to throw our hands up and quit, we need to dig in and band together.
The local inns are opening their rooms and restaurants are feeding all volunteers willing to help restore our beloved trails."
Here is what you can do to help:
1.) Join the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship or make a donation.
2.) Get to Downievile ASAP !
When: we will have trail crews going out every day between now and July 8th. All are welcome and appreciated, including groups!
Where to meet: YUBA Expeditions bike shop at 208 Main Street, Downieville. (530) 289 3010.
What time to meet: 8:00am. If you can't make it by 8:00, we will have tools stashed and you can either ride or walk into the work site. Stop in at the shop to pack a lunch, get a map and receive work details before you head out on the trail.

We provide: all meals, tools and accommodations. The Downieville River Inn, Riverside Inn, and Carriage House Inn are all contributing to this program. We will also secure camping near town for those wanting to sleep under the stars.
You bring: gloves, backpack, work shoes/boots, and a towel for showering.
Work locations include: Butcher Ranch Trail, Pauley Creek Trail, Big Boulder Trail, Third and First Divide Trails
Work focus: drainage construction, tread repair, deadfall removal and snow removal. If anyone has a snow blower or snow removal equipment, we could use it!
